 The OMAX 40X-2500X Phase Contrast Trinocular LED Compound Microscope is a laboratory microscope that comes with a trinocular head and a complete phase contrast kit. As such, it allows for the simultaneous observation of specimen through the eyepiece and the trinocular port.

OMAX 40X-2500X Phase Contrast Trinocular Description


The OMAX 40X-2500X Phase Contrast Trinocular LED Compound Microscope provides a total magnification range of between 40x and 2500x for bright field microscopy and between 100x and 1000x for phase contrast microscopy.

Here, it is important to note that this OMAX Microscope is an ordinary light microscope that comes with a phase contrast kit, allowing it to be used for phase contrast microscopy. As such, it can be used to observe a wide range of specimen including stained and unstained slides.

Whereas bright field microscopy allows for observation of stained and unstained wet mounts, phase contrast makes it easier to observe unstained, colorless specimen. As such, it can be used for observing both dead and living cells.

This is made possible by a range of lenses, which include;

  • Widefield WF10X/18 and WF25X eyepieces
  • Achromatic DIN 2x, 10x, 40x (S) and 100x (S, Oil) bright field objectives
  • Plan phase contrast objectives (PH10X, PH40X (S))


The viewing head of the OMAX 40X-2500X Phase Contrast LED Trinocular Compound Microscope is inclined at a 45 degree angle and allows for a 360 degree swiveling, which means that the user can observe the specimen from any direction without necessarily having to turn the entire device around.

Apart from an adjustable interpupillary distance (55mm ~ 75mm), this microscope also a diopter in place, which accommodates differences in eye vision. As such, it can be comfortably used by anyone. This being a trinocular microscope, the microscope comes with a true color 9M pixels camera. This has in place a 0.5X c-mount reduction, which is important in that it decreases the camera port's magnification by half, which in turn increases the field of view. Here, the advantage is that it allows for a wider field of view of the slide to be observed therefore allowing for more contents of the slide to be viewed.

Using a USB cable, the microscope can easily be connected to a PC (Windows XP/Vista/7, Mac OS and Linux operating system). This allows for such functions as capturing of images, live recording, and measurements of areas, angles and lengths as well as image editing.

Pros

 

The OMAX 40X-2500X Phase Contrast Trinocular LED Compound Microscope is a good quality microscope with a number of strengths, which include:

  • six levels of magnification of up to 2500x
  • a complete phase contrast kit, which allows the microscope to be used for viewing of a wide range of specimens (it can be used to observe cell cycle)
  • a trinocular head that allows for PC connection - This allows the microscope to be used for measuring of the specimen, capture of images and videos as well as sharing of the videos/images
  • a stainless mechanical stage which can be easily moved using the knobs rather than manually moving the slide during observation.

 

Cons

 

One of the only issues albeit a small one with this microscope is that some users may find installing the software (and even using it) a little cumbersome. However, with practice this has been reported to get easier.

The OMAX 40X-2500X Phase Contrast LED Trinocular Compound Microscope is a good quality microscope that can be used in schools, for biological research as well as clinical purposes.
